Opening Related Records
Specialist Training Exercise 6

Opening Related Records

After updating and saving a record, it is presented to you in View mode, even if your update caused it to be removed from the view on the left side of your screen.

When a record is in View mode, you can see that the relations that the record has with other records are hyperlinked. You can click on such hyperlinks to open a preview of the related record. You will then be able to open the entire record in View mode by clicking on its subject or name. If you have the access rights to modify the related record, you can open it in Edit mode by clicking on the Edit link in the upper right-hand corner of the preview.

When you do not have access to a related record, it will not be hyperlinked. In such cases you will not be able to open the preview of the related record.

If you would rather open the entire record directly in View mode, you can do this by keeping the Control (Windows Crtl) or Command (Mac ⌘ ) key pressed while you click on the hyperlink.

Questions:

The Specialist role does not provide the access rights needed to edit a Service Instance record. Tom’s Specialist role of the Widget Data Center account allows Tom to see all of Widget Data Center’s service instances, but he is not able to update them.

Click on the Application Development team in request #704660. In the preview of this team, you will see that Frank Watson is the team’s coordinator. Click on Frank Watson to open the preview of his Person record. The preview will show you that Frank’s email address is: frank.watson@widget.com.
