Change Manager Training Exercise 3

Completing a Change (i)

Start button

Because you pressed the Start toolbar button, the first tasks of the change workflow (i.e. the ones that do not have a predecessor) are assigned. You will note, however, that the task for the update of the continuity plan is also assigned. That is because all of its predecessors (in this case there is only one) were canceled.

So, two tasks of the emergency change have automatically been set to the status “Assigned” and both are assigned to Barney Turban.

Go to the Inbox console to see if these tasks are listed there. First open the task that asks you to inform the service owner about the emergency change. Since the service owner is Jo-Ann Stock, she already knows that the emergency change was implemented successfully. It is still important, however, to let her know that you have registered the emergency change.

Inform Jo-Ann that the emergency change has been registered. Use the Mention feature of the Note field to do this (i.e. place the cursor in the Note field, enter the @-symbol and select Jo-Ann to ensure that she will receive an email with your note). After adding this note, you can complete this task.

Next, open the task requesting the update of the continuity plan for the Sales Tracking Production service instance. Assume that you have updated the plan by replacing all references from CMP00006 to CMP00069. Now you can complete this final task of the emergency change.

Questions:

The status of the workflow was automatically set to “Completed”.

In View mode, the completion reason can be found in the upper right corner of the Workflow form.

Because all tasks of the change workflow were set to either “Canceled” or “Completed”, the 4me service knew that the change was completed successfully. That is why it selected the completion reason “Complete – All Requirements Met”.
