Approving a Project
After Howard’s review of Widget Data Center’s project portfolio, he decides to approve Ellen’s project. Do this by going back to Howard’s Inbox, selecting the project task ‘Approval from steering committee for project implementation’ and pressing the Approve button in the toolbar.
Question:
Why did the status of the task get updated to ‘In Progress’?
Even though Howard Tanner approved the task, one more approval is needed before the status of the task will be set to ‘Approved’.
The number of required approvals for the task is 2. Only 1 more approval is needed before the Implementation phase can start.

In Chess’s inbox, select the project task ‘Approval from steering committee for project implementation’ and press the Approve button in the toolbar.
Question:
How did the 2nd approval affect the project?
Because the minimum number of approvals has been collected, the status of the approval task has been updated to ‘Approved’. The other 2 approvers no longer need to provide their approval, which is why you see that the status for them is ‘Canceled’.
In addition, the approval has caused the status of its 2 successor tasks to be updated to ‘Assigned’. You will notice that these 2 successor tasks started earlier than originally planned. That is because their ‘Start no earlier then’ field was not filled out. That ensures that the tasks start as soon as their predecessor(s) have successfully reached their final status.
