Registering a Hardware CI
Configuration Manager Training Exercise 7

Registering a Hardware CI

Now that you have registered the product, you can use it to register a CI for the interactive whiteboard that has been ordered.

Register this new CI in 4me. You can use the Add Configuration Item button on the SMART 7086 Pro display Product record or you can go to the Configuration Items records and click on the ‘+’ (Add Configuration Item) in the top header bar.

When you have any doubts about one of the fields check the 4me online help for the record type Configuration Item here.

Do not forget to relate the CI to the appropriate service instance!

Question:

The status of the new CI is Ordered. According to the online help this means: The CI has been ordered from an external supplier, but has not yet been delivered.

The Serial Number remains empty for now. The fields Serial number, Asset ID, In use since and Warranty expiry date will be typically filled in once the goods are delivered.

Note that you didn't create a label for this new CI: a label is automatically generated by 4me using the same prefix of other CIs of the same product category, followed by the next available number as the suffix. The generated label can be adjusted as needed, e.g. in case the CI already has a label that is different from the generated label or when it is the first CI being registered for a certain product category.
