Assigning Project Tasks
In request #70486, Howard indicated that 2 approvals would be sufficient for this project. He also suggested that Ander Alkin (IT manager , Widget Europe) and Chess Cole (IT manager, Widget North America) be added to the steering committee.
Go to the project Upgrade HP OpenView NNM to v10 (NNM10), open the Gantt chart and get the task Approval from steering committee for project implementation.
If you are managing a project with many tasks, you can quickly find a specific task using the Search box that is available above the Gantt chart. When you enter part of the subject of a task in the Search box, this highlights all matching subjects. When a matching task is found in a collapsed phase, the number of matches is displayed in the phase header.
Click on the approval task and the required approvals from 3 to 2. Close the task so that you are back in the Gantt chart again.
Question:
What changed in the Gantt chart now that only 2 approvals are required?
Now that the number of approvers is no longer less than the number of required approvals, the task is no longer presented in bold typeface. This indicates that all the required fields have a value and that there are no other issues (such as insufficient approvers) to be resolved for the task.
You could have also added Ander and Chess as approvers when you had the task open, but there is another way to do this.
Assuming that you are still in the Gantt chart of your project, click on the Task Assignment button in the toolbar. You should now see the project team on the right side. Use the Add Person… button to add Ander Alkin and Chess Cole to your project team.
Next, drag and drop Ander and Chess onto the task ‘Approval from steering committee for project implementation’. This adds them as approvers.
Before starting the project, there are 2 more things that need to be done: adding a milestone and checking the availability of the project team. You will do this in the next 2 exercises.
