Import Services
Once the teams have been registered, it is time to load the services that your organization provides. To add services quickly, we have prepared an import file with a number of typical services. It contains the following services:
- Conference Room
- Customer Relationship Management
- Database
- Enterprise Resource Planning
- Expense Reporting
- Internet Access
- IP Telephony
- LAN Connectivity
- Local Printing
- Mainframe
- Network Connectivity
- Network Printing
- Personal Computing
- Rack Space
- Secure Remote Access
- Service Management (Xurrent)
- Smart Phone
- Storage
- System Management
- Unix Server
- WAN Connectivity
- Windows Server
There are probably too many services in the import file. You can remove the ones that are not relevant for you. To do this, open the import file using a spreadsheet application and delete the rows with the services that you do not want to import.
Excel does not support UTF-8 encoding. If you use Excel and special characters (such as ç, é or ö), save the file as "Unicode Text (*.txt)" rather than "CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)". Google Docs spreadsheets and OpenOffice Calc do use UTF-8 encoding, so those may be better alternatives if you work with special characters.
Do not rename any of the services yet. It is best to do that after you have loaded all the service level management information. That is because in the next steps you will upload the service instances and service offerings and they will automatically be linked to the correct service if the service name has not been changed.
Next, specify your organization’s name in the Provider column for each service that is left in the import file. A provider is required for each service, as otherwise the services cannot be imported. You can look up the exact name of your organization as follows:
- Within Xurrent, click on the Records console toolbar icon.
- Select the “Organizations” option from the dropdown menu.
The only thing left to do now is to specify the team that is responsible for each service in the Support Team column. A support team must be specified in the import file for each service. Make sure that you use the exact names of the teams. You can look up the names as follows:
- Within Xurrent, click on the Records console toolbar icon.
- Select the “Teams” option from the dropdown menu.
Now that you have deleted the services that you do not want to upload and specified the provider organization and support team for each service, you can save the import file. You are ready for your first import.
To import the services, follow these instructions:
- Within Xurrent, click on the Records console toolbar icon.
- Select the “Services” option from the dropdown menu.
- Click on the Actions toolbar button.
- Select the option “Import…” option.
- Click on the Choose File… button.
- Select the import file with your services.
- Click on the Import button to start the import.
To ensure that your services were imported correctly, refresh your browser screen. If you do not see any new services, go to the Settings console. There you can click on Import Log on the left side of the screen. This will show you an entry for the import that you performed. Click on the entry to review the errors if there are any.
